My Camino Route in 2023
This year (2023), I will be walking my tenth Camino in thirteen years. This time I plan to walk the Camino Sanabres from Zamora to Lalin, the the Camino Invierno from Ponferrada to Santiago. The route is shown with the red line on the map.

Pamplona

I only walked ten miles today, which was enough to get me into old town Pamplona. Got in about 11 am and was lucky to find an inexpensive but nice pension. After sleeping in one room with 60 other pilgrims last night, the privacy will be welcome. It is raining now (8 pm) but hope it will clear tomorrow. It drizzled a little during today's walk.

Some pilgrims seem intent on getting out and covering as much ground as possible without looking around. I am glad I was able to visit the cathedral, other churches, and the Museo Navarre today. This is very much Basque country and there was even a small demonstration in front of the auntamiento (city hall) today.

There is not an Internet café to be found anymore. Tonight I resorted to stealing the unsecured wifi signal outside a fancy hotel!

  1. Are you able to find others to have conversations with? English or possibly Spanish? Is the area between towns rural - wooded or farms. If farms - how modern. At the time years ago that we went, the farming seemed very antiquated - mules etc.

  2. Lots of English speakers, but I have used my poor Spanish, too. When I check in at the albergue, they often think I´m German! We pass through lots of rural area, but they have tractors and modern equipment. Generally away from the highways, but we parallel them. Being off the highway usually means more climbing.
