My Camino Route in 2023
This year (2023), I will be walking my tenth Camino in thirteen years. This time I plan to walk the Camino Sanabres from Zamora to Lalin, the the Camino Invierno from Ponferrada to Santiago. The route is shown with the red line on the map.

Estella

A little village surrounded by vineyards.

There are occasional crossing of the modern autovia (freeway).

This is part of the old Roman Road built 2000 years ago. Will the autovia last that long?

A nice camino track along the autovia.

Definitely in Basque country.

About 13 miles today to Estella. Six hours of walking. No big climbs, but lots of up and down. Spain is not a flat country! My legs are not so sore anymore, but toes are sore, I wrapped the two bad ones this morning and they don´t seem any worse this afternoon.

I had a good menu del peregrino last night- white beans with ham, chicken, and some padron peppers. I am waiting till 5 pm to explore the town, everything is pretty slow until siesta hours are over.

  1. Hello John. We are enjoying reading your journal. When they say "It's the journey", you will defintely have a unique perspective on the phrase after this sojourn. Tell us something about your fellow travelers that you've been able to gleen. I'm guessing it's safe to assume they are mostly Spanish speakers...

  2. Hey John,
Chatting about your trip in the am's with the boys. Floyd had some bisquits and gravy yesterday- unusual cause not been eating. I wonder if he had a gift card- would he be eating more regular? Continue doing the great work your doing, John.

  3. More foreigners than Spanish. Lots of French, then people from all over Europe- Germans, Danish, Swiss, etc. And a lot of English speaking from England, Ireland, Canada, and Australia. Very few Americans.

Ages from 20 through the 60´s. Some even older I met a German couple who were both 78 years old. Most of the 40 and older woman seem to travel in pairs or groups, not so much so with the men. And a lot of married couples are walking together, too.
