Rubiaes Sept 12

Beautiful country on the steepest climb yet.

Tending the flock

And it really did get much steeper!

Well, the music went non stop until 6 am. It was at least 1 km away, but you could clearly hear the words, even through earplugs. A lot of the songs were in English. Some kind of industrial grade techno-pop with a very heavy drum beat.

At 7 am, the smoke detector went off and would not stop, so we were walking by 7:30 and almost immediately out in the countryside. Today´s walk was shorter at 12 miles, but halfway into it, we had a steep climb with a 1000 foot elevation change in two miles of walking over some very rocky trails. ~Marge had a bit of a struggle on the steep slopes and constant uphill. She made it, but her leg is all scratched where she slipped once. I bumped my sore big toe twice, and it is throbbing now. That nail will come off for sure, but probably take another two weeks to do it.

We arrived at the albergue about 2 pm. It is hot here now that it is late afternoon, probably about 95 degrees. No internet at the albergue, no free wifi, but I did find a pay computer in the local bar a km down the road. We also checked out the three restaurants for tonight.

  1. Sounds like a combination of the Fourth of July and Woodstock Music Festival! Hope you are able to get some sleep tonight. Looking forward to seeing your pictures, but leave your big toe out of it!
